چکیده

A new spectrometer has been built at the EC-JRC IRMM to investigate isomer decay in the millisecond range and activation cross sections of isotopes, where isomeric states exist and are populated. The spectrometer is equipped with high-resolution gamma-ray detectors and an ionisation chamber for the measurement of charged particles, e.g., fission fragments. NEPTUNE provides pulsed quasi mono-energetic neutrons at pulse repetition frequencies up to 5 kHz and tuneable neutron pulse widths ranging from 10 μs into the ms-region. For this purpose a beam chopper based on a parallel-plate capacitor has been integrated into the accelerator beam line in order to deflect the charged-particle beam onto a tantalum beam dump. First research has been performed with the NEPTUNE spectrometer dedicated to the shape isomer search in the odd-A uranium isotopes 235U, 237U and 239U. In further experiments the population of long-lived spin isomers was investigated.

Adsorption of melphalan anticancer drug on the surface of fullerene (C24): a comprehensive DFT study

Objective (s): The present study aimed to assess the adsorption of fullerene C24 with Melphalan anticancer agent in a solvent phase (water) at the B3LYP/6-31G (d) theoretical level.Materials and Methods: Initially, the structures of Melphalan and fullerene complexes were optimized in four configurations. Afterwards, IR calculations and molecular orbital analysis were performed. In addition, som...

Calibration of planetary brightness temperature spectra at near-millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths with a Fourier-transform spectrometer.

A medium-resolution Fourier-transform spectrometer for ground-based observation of astronomical sources at near-millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths is described. The steps involved in measuring and calibrating astronomical spectra are elaborated. The spectrometer is well suited to planetary spectroscopy, and initial measurements of the intrinsic brightness temperature spectra of Uranus and...

Detection of HD in the atmospheres of Uranus and Neptune: a new determination of the D/H ratio

Observations with the Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) onboard the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) have led to the first unambiguous detection of HD in the atmospheres of Uranus and Neptune, from its R(2) rotational line at 37.7 μm. Using S(0) and S(1) quadrupolar lines of H2 at 28.2 and 17.0 μm as atmospheric thermometers, we derive D/H ratios of 5.5( −1.5 ) × 10−5 and 6.5( −1.5 ) × 10−5 o...

Isomeric Decay of 208Ra

Low-energy excited states of 208 Ra were investigated using the 182 W(30 Si, 4n) reaction at the Wright Nuclear Structure Laboratory of Yale University. Fusion evaporation recoils were selected using the gas-filled spectrometer SASSYER. Delayed γ rays, following isomeric decays, were detected at the focal plane of SASSYER with a small array of three clover Ge detectors. Transitions following a ...

Very High Energy Gain at the Neptune Inverse Free Electron Laser Experiment

We report the observation of energy gain in excess of 20 MeV at the Inverse Free Electron Laser Accelerator experiment at the Neptune Laboratory at UCLA. A 14.5 MeV electron beam is injected in an undulator strongly tapered in period and field amplitude. The IFEL driver is a CO2 10.6 μm laser with power larger than 400 GW. The Rayleigh range of the laser, ∼ 1.8 cm, is much shorter than the undu...
